A delegation from the CNOOC Research Institute Ltd. visited our institute to discuss deep-sea mineral development technologies and industrial development. The delegation was led by Chen Hongju, Director of the New Energy and Resources Research Institute CNOOC Research Institute Ltd..In our institute, Xiao Lairong, Party Secretary; Duan Ji’an, Dean; and faculty representatives from the deep-sea mineral resource development research team attended the symposium.

At the symposium, Secretary Xiao Lairong extended a warm welcome to the delegation on behalf of the institute and briefly introduced the institute’s discipline development, talent cultivation, and scientific research innovation. Dean Duan Ji’an outlined the institute’s key laboratory platforms, research layout, and distinctive strengths, showcasing the institute’s deep expertise in high-end equipment manufacturing and deep-sea mineral development.

Yu Bangting, Director of the Ocean Energy Research Office at CNOOC Research Institute's New Energy and Resources Research Institute, introduced CNOOC Group and the Research Institute. He focused on the institute’s core technical capabilities and landmark achievements in ocean energy and resources, and outlined the key technical issues that the visit sought to address during this visit, particularly regarding the practical engineering applications of deep-sea mineral resource extraction.

Professor Liu Lehua from our institute outlined the research foundation, key technological achievements, and interdisciplinary innovative research teams in deep-sea mineral resource development.He highlighted our institute’s comprehensive research chain—spanning from fundamental theory to engineering applications—and robust capabilities in this field.

During the open discussion session, both parties held in-depth talks on issues related to deep-sea mining, focusing on key technological breakthroughs, the development of high-end equipment, and industrial development pathways.

This visit has established a solid communication platform for deep integration of industry, academia, and research in deep-sea mineral resources development.
